Kano Assembly Passes Bill To Create Second-class Emirates

The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 following its third reading on Tuesday.

The bill, introduced by the Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello Bututu, establishes the Kano first-class emirate and three second-class emirates: Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

Rano Emirate includes Rano, Bunkure, and Kibiya local government areas.

Gaya Emirate Encompasses Gaya, Albasu, and Ajingi local government areas.

Karaye Emirate Covers Karaye and Rogo local government areas.

The Emirs of these second-class emirates will be subordinate to the Emir of Kano and will have the authority to advise him on matters such as public order, boundary disputes, and conflicts between individuals within their jurisdictions.
