PRESS STATEMENT ON THE KILLING OF INNOCENT CITIZENS IN JOS

I received with deep sadness and a heavy heart the news of the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State. The loss of innocent lives under such tragic circumstances is both painful and deeply distressing.

No society can thrive where human life is treated with such disregard. Every Nigerian life is valuable, and the senseless taking of these lives is a stark reminder of the urgent need to strengthen our collective commitment to security, justice, and human dignity.

As a member of the Bar and a stakeholder in the Nigerian project, I am deeply concerned not only about the safety of legal practitioners but also about the welfare and protection of every citizen across the country. The security of lives and property remains the bedrock upon which justice, development, and national unity must rest.

This unfortunate incident underscores the constitutional responsibility of the State to protect life and maintain order. It is imperative that security agencies act swiftly and decisively to investigate these killings, apprehend those responsible, and ensure that justice is served without delay. Accountability is essential, not only to provide closure to grieving families but also to restore public confidence in our institutions.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and all those affected by this tragedy. I also call on government at all levels to provide immediate support and relief to the injured and the bereaved, as part of a humane and responsive approach to governance.

At a time like this, while emotions understandably run high, I urge all citizens to remain calm and law-abiding. Peaceful coexistence and respect for the rule of law are critical to preventing further loss and ensuring stability in our communities.

As we reflect on this tragic event, we must recommit ourselves, both individually and collectively, to building a society where justice is not only proclaimed but truly experienced, and where the safety and dignity of every Nigerian are protected.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace.
