Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has signed the provisional 2025 supplementary budget totalling N75 billion into law.
The budget, consisting of N58 billion for the state and N17 billion for the 27 local governments, was assented to by the governor, following its passage by the State House of Assembly on September 25.
The newly approved N58 billion supplementary budget added, Jigawa State’s total budget for 2025 is now about N756.3 billion, as the original budget was N698.3 billion before the supplementary.
Recall that the governor had transmitted the bill to the lawmakers on September 17, urging speedy approval to fund critical projects.
Speaking while assenting to the bill into law on Monday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Dutse, Namadi highlighted the supplementary budget as key to accelerating development across the state.
He praised the Assembly for its swift action, emphasising that the budget would enhance sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
“We are committed to ensuring that every kobo allocated reflects in tangible improvements for our people,” Namadi said. “This supplementary appropriation is a boost to our ongoing efforts to improve livelihoods and foster economic growth.”
However, the governor assured transparency and accountability, promising regular updates on the implementation status.
He also encouraged citizens to participate in monitoring projects to guarantee value for public funds.
Governor Namadi reiterated that the government’s focus remains on improving education standards, with funds directed towards school infrastructure, learning materials, road construction, rural electrification, healthcare facility upgrades, and empowering youth and women through skill acquisition programs.
“The future of Jigawa depends on investing in our children through quality education and health services,” the governor added.
He called on traditional leaders and community institutions to support the government’s agenda for sustainable development.
Furthermore, Namadi appealed for continued peace and cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure the success of the developmental plans outlined in the supplementary budget.
Earlier, while presenting the document of the supplementary budget to the governor after its passage, Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Haruna Dangyatim, expressed gratitude to the governor for his cooperation in passing the budget promptly.
“This partnership between the executive and legislature is crucial for the progress of Jigawa State Dangyatim commented.
The speaker pointed out that “the supplementary budget helps cover unforeseen expenditures and new projects identified since the initial 2025 budget was approved earlier this year. It reflects the state’s commitment to responsive governance amid economic challenges.”
Stakeholders are describing the approved supplementary bill as a significant step in Jigawa’s development roadmap, with the additional N58 billion allocation expected to stimulate growth and improve living conditions across the state.
