Men across the globe are being celebrated today, November 19, 2024, as the world marks International Men’s Day, themed “Positive Male Role Models.” This annual event shines a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of men to families, communities, and societies, while encouraging conversations around healthy masculinity, mental health, and mentorship.
In his statement, Mr. ‘Nonso Azih (KSJI), Principal Counsel of Azih & Azih Legal Practitioners, acknowledged the significant roles men play in fostering positive change. He emphasized the importance of breaking stereotypes, challenging toxic masculinity, and supporting gender equality.
“This year’s theme is a call to action,” Mr. Azih remarked. “It’s about celebrating men who prioritize mental health, empower others, and inspire future generations through mentorship and leadership.”
The focus of International Men’s Day 2024 includes:
•Promoting healthy masculinity and challenging societal stereotypes;
• Addressing men’s mental health and well-being;
• Highlighting men’s efforts in supporting gender equality and women’s empowerment;
• Encouraging mentorship for younger generations;
• Advocating for initiatives that prioritize men’s physical and mental health.
• The day serves as a reminder of the collective effort needed to ensure men feel supported and valued in their roles as fathers, partners, leaders, and community builders.
“Men’s efforts, sacrifices, and dedication often go unrecognized,” Mr. Azih added. “Today, we celebrate them and encourage them to keep shining.”
As the world observes International Men’s Day, stakeholders are urged to continue creating spaces for dialogue and action that promote inclusivity and holistic development for men.
