Intelligence Community Seeks Senate Intervention Over 2025 Budget Constraints

The nation’s security intelligence community has appealed to the Nigerian Senate for urgent intervention over funding constraints and operational challenges affecting the implementation of the 2025 budget.

Addressing members of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, outlined key obstacles confronting intelligence agencies in the current fiscal year.

Danjuma told lawmakers that the intelligence community’s operations in 2025 have been significantly hampered by structural and financial bottlenecks. Reacting, members of the Senate Committee commended the intelligence community for what they described as its promptness, discipline and professionalism in carrying out its mandate despite funding limitations.

However, the committee faulted certain heads of agencies including some former senators, for delays and what it termed as lapses in administrative discipline. The session later moved into a closed-door meeting, where lawmakers and security chiefs deliberated on budgetary figures and other sensitive national security matters.
