The National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Bola Tinubu, the candidate of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, as the winner of Saturday’s presidential election.
Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election, polling 8,739,249 votes to beat his closest rival of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who got 6,954,286 votes.
The candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi came third, polling a total number of 5,702,043 votes.
Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima are expected to be presented with Certificates of Return later today.
Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election.
In securing the highest votes, he met the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner.
He also scored over 25 per cent of the votes cast in 30 states, more than the 25 states constitutionally required
