Okpravero Ufuoma, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI II), has been suspended by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for reportedly requesting cash gain from a traveler.
Kenneth Udo, a spokesperson for the Service, stated in a statement that the officer’s actions, which were caught on camera and are making the rounds on social media, do not align with the standards of professionalism and ethics that the NIS upholds.
The viral video with the title, “This is how immigration officers treat tourists in Nigeria,” was sent to the Service, according to Udo.
Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller General of Immigration, likewise strongly denounced the purported misbehavior, stating that it compromised the current changes intended to improve service standards.
She, however, assured the public that the officer has been indefinitely suspended pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures, in accordance with the law and Public Service Rules.
Nandap stressed that the officer’s act is disgraceful and not a representation of the commitment of the service to hospitality, reception and courtesy.
