Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has disclosed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of the Head of the Osun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Moses Lohor, and his team over allegations of attempted murder.
This decision followed a meeting between Governor Adeleke and the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba, as confirmed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Samuel Ojo, in a statement issued by Olawale Rasheed, the Governor’s spokesperson.
The controversy arose when Moses Lohor and his team allegedly shot Wakeel Nurudeen Iyanda Alowonle, Chairman of the Osun State Transport Management System, on Monday night. The police claimed Alowonle was shot while attempting to evade arrest after a pistol and ammunition were reportedly found in his car.
However, a statement from the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, accused the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of attempted murder, alleging that Alowonle was shot in the abdomen after being detained at the police station following a domestic dispute with a neighbor.
Alowonle is currently on life support in the Intensive Care Unit of the Osun State Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.
