ICSAN Lagos State Chapter Champions the Redefinition of Corporate Governance at 2025 Annual Summit

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Lagos State Chapter, held its highly anticipated 2025 Annual Summit as part of its Corporate Governance Week, drawing top professionals and industry leaders to explore the evolving landscape of governance. The event, themed “Governance Redefined in a Business Environment: A Continuum or New Paradigms,” set the stage for thought-provoking discussions on the transformation of governance principles in an era of rapid change.

In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the Chapter, Efosa Ewere expressed delight at the Chapter’s consistent progress, noting that the annual summit has grown into a national platform for advancing governance, ethics, and leadership. She emphasized the timeliness of the theme, which calls on professionals to examine whether corporate governance practices are merely continuing old traditions or evolving into innovative systems that reflect modern realities.

Efosa commended the efforts of the summit’s planning committee and recognized the presence of distinguished guests including the event’s Chairman, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director General of NIMASA; the ICSAN President, Mrs. Uto Ukpanah, FCIS; and keynote speaker, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, SAN. She noted that the summit’s panel discussions — “Evolving Governance Models: Bridging Compliance and Strategic Alignment” and “Adaptive Governance in the Age of Disruption: AI, Cybersecurity, and the Future of Corporate Structures” — would address how governance can move from a bureaucratic exercise to a driver of strategic value.

Highlighting the need for governance professionals to adapt, the Chairperson noted that digital transformation, sustainability goals, and shifting stakeholder expectations are redefining corporate management globally. She stressed that governance must evolve beyond rules and checklists to become a dynamic framework that fosters ethical leadership, accountability, and innovation.

She concluded by appreciating God, the Chapter’s Executive Committee, and the Planning Committee for their tireless efforts in organizing a successful event. She also praised the Chapter’s leadership for promoting inclusivity and supporting female leadership within ICSAN. Declaring the summit open, she urged participants to reflect, engage, and leave inspired to drive change, reaffirming ICSAN’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continuous redefinition of governance for a sustainable future.
