ICPC Arraigns ex-court Staff for Alleged N9.2m Fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned a former staff of the Court of Appeal, Munirat Abdulazeez, at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Bwari, for alleged job scam.

The ICPC spokesman, Demola Bakare, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, said Abdulazeez appeared in court after an arrest warrant was issued against her for shunning the previous proceeding.

The defendant served in the Court of Appeal from 2018 and 2023.

According to Bakare. the defendant was involved in a fraudulent job scheme by promising fake employment opportunities at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

He added that Abdulazeez allegedly obtained a total of N9.2 million from eight unsuspecting job seekers between July 2022 and September 2023.

She, however. pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

Following her plea, ICPC counsel, Hamza Sani, asked the court to retain the earlier fixed date of June 13, 2025, for the prosecution to present its witnesses.

Justice Godwin Iheabunke granted the defendant bail in the sun of N10 million and two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the matter to June 20 for hearing.
