Prof. Fidelis Oditah
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Fidelis Oditah, has said that the quality of a country’s rule of law will determine if it has development prospects.
Oditah, according to a statement on Thursday, said this during the handover of the refurbished Centre for Business Law and Policy of the University of Lagos by the Fidelis Oditah Foundation.
He said, “The extent to which Nigeria can attract business and foreign direct investment depends in part upon investor perception of the quality of our civil and criminal justice system.
“If our system of civil and criminal justice is perceived to be inefficient and ineffective, we would lose out to more efficient and effective systems.
“A steady neglect or decline in the rule of law in many developing countries has been a major reason for the decline in the development prospects of such countries.”
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, UNILAG, Prof. Ayodele Atsenua, lauded the support to the CBLP by Fidelis Oditah Foundation, adding that it will also advance the mandate of the university.
