The National Council of Women Society (NCWS) and its affiliated organizations have issued a public statement, urging everyone to dismiss any rumors or misrepresentations concerning the Imo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law of 2021.
During a press conference held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Monday, the NCWS clarified that one of the false claims and distortions about the law is its alleged endorsement of abortion.
The women’s group emphasized that the VAPP law, adopted within the state, is a legal framework designed to address violence against individuals, regardless of gender. It is not associated with or related to issues of abortion.
They further called upon the state government to reject any attempts to tarnish the reputation of the VAPP Law and instead continue supporting it through budgetary allocations aimed at facilitating its full enforcement and implementation.
