As the National Assembly embark upon yet another round of electoral reforms, A Coalition of Civil Society Organizations has presented Citizens Memorandum for Electoral Reforms.
This they say, will serve as a roadmap designed to guide lawmakers and all election stakeholders through priority areas in need of immediate attention. Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the Executive Director, Centre for media and society, Akin Akingbulu was speaking at a public presentation events held in Abuja, on Wednesday.
He noted that, the memorandum focuses on three core pillars of the electoral legal framework for the conduct of elections which includes, Constitution Alteration, 2022 Electoral Act Amendment and Review of INEC regulations and guidelines for elections.
Akingbulu explained that, the proposals for the alteration of the constitution are tailored towards achieving improved independence and professionalism of INEC and SIECs to ensure credible elections and inspire public trust in the electoral process. Representatives from other organizations called for a review to encourage sanctioning of vote buyers and sellers. They called for the establishment of electoral offenses commission.
