In a significant move, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate former governor Gboyega Oyetola, currently serving as Minister of Blue Economy, over serious allegations of financial misconduct.
Governor Adeleke claims that Oyetola misappropriated a staggering $20 million health grant from the World Bank, along with ₦1.5 billion in local state funds.
The petition cites alleged breaches of the Public Procurement Act, claiming that Oyetola, who chaired a special health intervention committee, oversaw the allocation of these funds intended for the renovation of 320 primary health care centers across the state.
According to Adeleke, the selected companies executed substandard renovations while collecting full payments, raising concerns about the proper use of the grant.
Additionally, the Adeleke administration has accused the previous administration of laundering money through the Osun chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria. Financial records indicate a suspicious pattern with daily cash withdrawals between ₦10 million and ₦30 million occurring from January to October 2022, with no transparent accounting for the funds’ intended usage.
Governor Adeleke’s administration emphasizes the urgency of an investigation to hold accountable those allegedly involved in these financial irregularities and to ensure that resources meant for the welfare of Osun State citizens are properly managed.
