Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to go after those responsible for the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
In a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Friday, the governor condemned the incident, describing vandalism as “barbaric and criminal” and warning that anyone found culpable would face the law.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He said officials of the Office of Infrastructure had inspected the bridge and informed him that its structural integrity remained intact.
“I have been informed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who visited the bridge that the structural integrity of the bridge is intact and remedial work will be executed immediately to protect the columns,” he said.
The governor described the incident as “horrendous, shameful and condemnable”, stressing that Lagos had no place for acts of violence against critical infrastructure and other public facilities.
“Anyone who is found to be culpable in this horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident will surely face the law.
“Lagos has no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against our critical infrastructure and other facilities. Lagosians are enjoined to keep an eye on public facilities to protect them against senseless attacks,” he added.
