Gov Otti Seeks South-East govs collaboration to upgrade Enugu Law School

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed readiness to collaborate with other South-East governors to upgrade the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku, on Tuesday.

Otti made the pledge during a meeting of the South East Law Development Initiative held at the Government House in Umuahia, where concerns were raised over the state of facilities at the Enugu campus.

The Coordinator of the group and Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Emeka Ngige (SAN), had appealed for intervention, noting that some of the institution’s facilities were in poor condition.

Responding, Otti called for a coordinated regional effort, asking that a formal request be sent to the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum to enable broader engagement.

“Write to the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and copy me, so that I can engage my colleagues on possible collective intervention,” he said.

The governor also used the opportunity to commend legal practitioners for their role in society, describing them as critical to upholding justice and protecting citizens’ rights.

“Anyhow you slice and dice it, without the gentlemen of the bar, extending to the bench, the hope of the common man would be dashed,” Otti said.

He further urged lawyers and professionals to participate actively in politics, stressing that governance decisions affect all citizens regardless of their professions.

“Little did we know that the decision of the politicians affect you one way or the other, in determining what happens to you,” he added.

Otti noted that professionals who do not rely on politics for survival should take a leading role in governance to improve leadership outcomes.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to education, highlighting ongoing efforts to develop a modern law faculty at Abia State University, Uturu.

Members of the initiative commended Otti’s infrastructural strides and pledged to support the state government through pro bono legal services.
