Tech giant Google has launched a free digital learning platform designed to help Nigerians and other Africans learn Artificial Intelligence (AI) and tech skills offline.
The initiative, tagged Skilling Africa with Google, aims to train three million people across the continent by 2030, with a target of graduating 250,000 learners by the end of 2026.
Google’s Managing Director for Africa, Alex Okosi, stated that the platform was specifically built to bypass connectivity challenges and high mobile data costs.
Learners can download course materials using public Wi-Fi and study offline without consuming additional mobile data or needing a separate mobile app.
The platform brings together over 15 training tracks, including Google Career Certificates, Hustle Academy for small businesses, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
To assist users, the platform features an AI-powered study companion named SCOUT, which answers questions and helps organize learning schedules.
Courses are currently available in English, Swahili, and Arabic, with Hausa and other African languages slated for rollout soon.
