Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara says his administration is making the poor state of education its top priority. The governor announced that the education sector will receive the largest allocation in the state’s 2026 budget.
Governor Fubara made the declaration while opening the 123rd and 124th combined quarterly meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt.
The governor admitted that many schools across the state are in bad shape but stressed that the current decay did not happen overnight but it was one of the major issues opponents highlighted during the 2023 election campaigns.
On healthcare, Governor Fubara pointed to the ongoing upgrade of zonal hospitals and better welfare for health workers as evidence of improved service delivery.
The Rivers state house of assembly had on Monday raised the alarm over the state of education in the state, while the combined quarterly session was the fourth since Governor Fubara assumed office.
