Former AG Advises FG on the Provisions of the Constitution

The Federal Government has been advised to renew its commitment to the fight against terrorism across the country and in line with the provision of the Constitution.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Attorney General of Nasarawa State, Shuaibu Labaran, made the Appeal in Abuja, while speaking with Journalists at the sideline of the presentation of a book on Enforcement of Anti-Terrorism law and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria.

He disclosed that successive administrations in the country had been fighting terrorism with some level of emotions but with little or no regards to the enforcement of human rights, as provided for in the constitution.

The Senior Lawyer said this is not to underestimate the efforts of the law enforcement agencies, the Judiciary and other stakeholders in the fight against terrorism but that such actions must be in line with the law guiding the country, which is the Constitution of the land.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of improvement on the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, especially in the area of the right of the suspects to secure a lawyer of his choice to defend him in the court.
