The Federal Government has announced plans to install solar panels at the Aso Rock Villa to address the unsustainable ₦47 billion annual electricity bills for the presidential seat of power. Mustapha Abdulahi, Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, disclosed on Friday that President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦10 billion for a solar power grid to provide clean, uninterrupted energy to the Villa.
Briefing journalists, Abdulahi stated that the initiative aligns with Tinubu’s agenda to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources and reduce governance costs. “It is unsustainable for the Aso Rock Villa to continue paying ₦47 billion yearly on power bills,” he said. The solar project is expected to create jobs, foster innovation among Nigerian engineers and energy experts, and ease pressure on the national grid.
Abdulahi also revealed that the administration’s energy innovations have attracted $5.3 billion in investments from development partners, particularly for grid expansion projects. The move underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and economic efficiency in public administration.
