FG Restates Commitment to Inclusive Education

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to inclusive and equitable education for all Nigerian children, especially girls with disabilities.

This was the focus of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child celebration organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Abuja, with the theme “Lead a Change: Learn Sign Language Today.”

The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, said the celebration highlighted the need to break communication barriers and promote sign language learning across schools. She described sign language as a bridge that fosters inclusion and equal participation for all learners.

UBEC’s Executive Secretary Aisha Garba said the Commission is implementing policies to institutionalize sign language teaching nationwide and improve accessibility for learners with disabilities.

She added that UBEC is investing in teacher training, child protection, and health screenings to support inclusive education.
