Federal Ministry Of Justice Unveils The National Policy On Arbitration And Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) 2024–2028

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) wishes to notify all members of the National Policy on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) 2024–2028, as forwarded by the Federal Ministry of Justice, following its approval by the Federal Executive Council in July 2024.

The policy highlights the critical role of Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in fostering development by mainstreaming arbitration and ADR mechanisms within their operational frameworks, promoting capacity building, ensuring compliance, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration to institutionalize a robust and efficient dispute resolution system in Nigeria.

The policy also seeks to promote Nigeria as an arbitration hub in Africa, as well as a friendly business environment for investment while conserving the enormous foreign exchange that would otherwise be expended through litigation in business transactions, both locally and internationally.

An effective implementation of this policy will provide the needed catalyst for national economic development.

The Nigerian Bar Association therefore urges all legal practitioners to familiarize themselves with the provisions of this policy and contribute to its effective implementation in advancing alternative dispute resolution in Nigeria.

For further inquiries, kindly follow our official communication channels.

Signed

Bridget Edokwe

Publicity Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association
