The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has inaugurated its committee on works, transport and aviation to monitor compliance with the federal character principle in ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
The committee is one of 25 operational panels recently approved at the commission’s weekly plenary presided over by Ayo Omidiran, executive chairman of the FCC.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Peter Eze, chairman of the committee, said the panel’s mandate is to ensure strict compliance with the laws establishing the commission, particularly in MDAs under the federal ministries of works, transport and aviation.
He described the federal character principle as a constitutional directive aimed at preventing the domination of public institutions by any region or group..
“The laws establishing the Federal Character Commission are clear. Our duty is not merely ceremonial. We are here to ensure full implementation and compliance,” Eze said.
“Every Nigerian, irrespective of tribe, gender, or region, deserves equal opportunity in public service.”
The committee chairman said effective enforcement of the commission’s mandate would promote fairness, strengthen national unity and deepen citizens’ sense of belonging.
He assured that the committee would carry out its oversight functions with transparency, accountability and dedication to constitutional order.
