Former UK Justice Minister and Conservative MP Crispin Blunt has been fined £1,200 after pleading guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to four counts of drug possession, including methamphetamine (crystal meth), cannabis, and GBL.
Police discovered the substances at his Surrey home in October 2023 during an investigation linked to chemsex parties. Blunt, who represented himself, admitted hosting drug‑fuelled gatherings, claiming his “first‑hand experience” was intended to inform government policy on drug reform.
In sentencing, Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram condemned Blunt’s conduct, stressing that as a former minister responsible for prisons and justice, he had undermined public confidence by breaching laws he once helped enforce. The court noted aggravating factors, including his admission to facilitating drug use by others.
Blunt argued that charges should not have been brought, alleging he was a victim of blackmail and extortion by a drug supplier. He further suggested his political views on drug policy, trans rights, and support for Palestinians may have influenced the prosecution.
The former MP, who lost the Conservative whip following his arrest and stood down at the 2024 general election, was also ordered to pay a £480 victim surcharge and £200 in costs.
