A former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uchenna Igwesi, has praised Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for successfully hosting the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in the state.
The week-long conference, which was held in Enugu from August 22 to 29, attracted eminent Nigerians, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and several respected legal luminaries.
In a statement on Wednesday, Igwesi expressed delight at the seamless organisation of the event, commending Governor Mbah for his strides in infrastructure and transportation.
He said the governor’s efforts to complete and operationalise the international terminal of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, as well as plans to construct a cargo terminal, were transforming Enugu into an aviation hub.
Igwesi also hailed the launch of Enugu Air, five modern transport terminals located at Holy Ghost, Gariki, Nsukka, and Abakpa, and the commissioning of 100 CNG mass transit buses.
He stated, “See what happened at the recent NBA Conference in Enugu. Senator Dino Melaye, in commending Mbah for his achievements, urged him to organise a training programme for his colleagues in other states. Many would think he said it on a lighter note, but he was damn serious.”
The former Majority Leader of the Enugu House of Assembly, popularly known as USA Igwesi, noted that Mbah’s leadership had exceeded expectations and earned him recognition beyond party lines.
“In just two years, the governor has written his name in gold. Since his inauguration, Enugu has continually been in the news for good reasons and has become a tourist destination of choice,” he said.
Igwesi further argued that Mbah’s re-election in 2027 was already secured, given the flood of endorsements from groups and stakeholders across the state.
He declared, “As a major stakeholder in Enugu, I align myself with leaders of thought and people of Enugu East Senatorial District across political divides in endorsing Governor Mbah as their sole candidate in the 2027 governorship race.
“I must confess that the governor has surpassed the expectations of everyone, including members of the opposition.
“People of Enugu now talk about Governor Mbah, not the party he belongs to. Following his achievements, the governor has become a movement in the state.”
Highlighting some of the governor’s interventions, Igwesi added that Mbah had touched all sectors, from education, health, and security to transport, tourism, and infrastructure.
“Within two years, he has revived abandoned and dormant assets like the Hotel Presidential, Nike Lake, Niger Gas, and the International Conference Centre. Enugu is indeed on the rise,” he added.
