Ex‑Army Chief Faruk Yahaya Sues Over Terrorism Financing Allegations, Demands Retraction and Apology

Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has commenced legal proceedings to safeguard his reputation following allegations linking him to terrorism financing.

In a statement issued in Abuja by retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, former Army Spokesman, it was disclosed that the allegations originated from retired Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Ali-Keffi during a broadcast interview.

Yahaya, through his legal team led by Mohammed Ndayako, SAN, has served formal demand notices on the individuals and media organisations involved. The notices, dated 17th December 2025, directed the parties to, within 72 hours, retract the allegations, tender unreserved public apologies, and desist from further dissemination.

The notices warned that failure to comply would trigger immediate legal action. They emphasised that such false and malicious allegations are not only injurious to Yahaya’s personal honour but also capable of eroding public confidence in national institutions and undermining the integrity of those who have served the country with distinction.

Gen. Yahaya stressed that his recourse to the courts is aimed at defending his honour and preserving professional accountability, reiterating that malicious falsehoods will not go unchallenged.
