Ex-Abia AG Denies Filing Forgery Complaint Against Lawyer

Chief Awa Kalu, SAN, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Abia State, has refuted claims that he filed a police complaint accusing legal practitioner Victor Giwa of forging his official letterhead. Giwa is currently facing criminal charges reportedly linked to forgery in a case marked CR/150/25, with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, listed as the complainant.

In a letter dated May 30, 2025, addressed to the Inspector General, Kalu clarified that he neither lodged a complaint nor reported Giwa for forging his official letterhead, contrary to widespread online reports. The allegations state that Giwa forged a legal document purportedly from Kalu’s chambers to communicate with the Attorney General of the Federation.

The case faced a setback during a recent court session due to Giwa’s absence. His counsel, U.J. Udo, informed the court that Giwa was attending his sister’s burial in his village. Justice Onwuegbuzie granted an adjournment, rescheduling the arraignment for September 15, 2025.
