Establishing Mobile Courts Will Help To Punish Vandals, Power Company Tells Govt

Aba Power Company has urged the Abia State Government to establish a mobile court to prosecute individuals vandalizing electricity infrastructure across the state.

The company, which manages the Aba ring-fenced area covering nine local government areas, expressed concern that persistent vandalism and sabotage have severely hindered its operations and efforts to provide reliable power to residents.

Managing Director of Aba Power Limited, Barr. Ugochukwu Opiegbe, lamented that the company lacks the authority to arrest and prosecute those responsible for destroying electricity facilities.

“When vandals are arrested, authorities turn to us for prosecution,” Opiegbe explained. “But legal proceedings take time, and while we wait for justice, we continue to suffer huge losses due to the destruction of our infrastructure.”
