Emefiele Returns To DSS Custody, As Prison Officials Clash With DSS In Court Premises

The representatives of the Nigerian Correctional Service who had gone to court to have suspended Central Bank of Nigeria governor Godwin Emefiele placed in their custody withdrew on Tuesday without accomplishing so.

The NCS officers eventually left after a senior female operative of the Department of State Services interfered in the conflict between the two bodies.

After being charged with illegally possession of a firearm, Emefiele was granted bail by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos, but the DSS refused to allow the prison guards to take possession of the former CBN governor as the court had ordered.

An earlier brawl between representatives of the two organizations resulted in the brutal beating of a senior prisons official.

Moments after the fight, the senior female DSS official arrived at the court and had a brief discussion with prison officials who later vacated the court.

The DSS operatives later took hold of Emefiele and whisked him away from the court premises in one of two Hilux vehicles that had been strategically positioned.
