Muktar Yerima’s election as the representative for the Tarauni Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives was declared invalid on Thursday by the elections petition tribunal in Kano.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate Yerima won the election on February 18, 2023, defeating Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kawu, a former member of the House of Representatives, petitioned the tribunal, arguing that Yerima’s victory was invalid since the certificate was fake.
Delivering the judgement on Thursday, the three-panel Justices upheld Kawu’s petition and nullified the sitting NNPP member’s election.
