A former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC) over an misconduct by police operatives in Kaduna State.
He accused the state Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Command of “unprofessional conduct, abuse of office, and serial violations” of the Police Act 2020 and related regulations.
In a petition dated September 8, 2025, and addressed to the PSC Chairman and Chief Executive, El-Rufai urged the Commission to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the alleged infractions.
“I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police (‘the Commissioner’) and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command,” El-Rufai stated.
He added that the petition was submitted “with a profound sense of responsibility as a citizen and public servant who has served the nation at both national and subnational levels, including dedicating eight years to improving Kaduna State for all its residents.”
The former governor stressed that his concerns went beyond personal grievances, saying they reflected a broader need for accountability and ethical standards within the police force.
“I am motivated by concern for the Nigerian Police Force, which, despite its challenges, remains the primary law enforcement institution in the country,” he said, adding that it was the duty of all citizens to support the PSC in “exercising its regulatory powers to enforce discipline and promote ethical conduct.”
