The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the nationwide deployment of personnel and operational assets to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the IGP extended Sallah greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property during the festive period.
He directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify security deployments and adopt proactive policing measures in their areas of responsibility.
According to the statement, the security arrangement includes the deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional officers to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces expected to experience high human traffic.
It added that the police will also strengthen visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties to deter crime and ensure quick response to any security threats.
The IGP urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and useful information, stressing that public cooperation remains essential to maintaining peace and safety during the celebration.
He also encouraged residents to report suspicious persons, objects, or activities around public gathering points, noting that every piece of credible information could help prevent security incidents.
The police assured Nigerians of adequate security presence nationwide and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
