EFCC, Law School Revive Partnership on Economic Crimes Law Report

Tuesday 7th June he Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Nigeria Law School have brokered fresh partnership aimed at reviving the journal on economic crimes, the Economic Crimes Law Report.

The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa hinted at this new-fangled initiative on Monday, June 6, 2022 when a delegation from the Nigeria Law School, led by its Director General, Professor Isah Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, paid him a Courtesy Visit at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.

Bawa noted that the EFCC has been instrumental to the development of law in Nigeria and wants the two institutions to partner to achieve more positive strides. “I am not aware of any institution of government that has contributed to the development of law in Nigeria in the last fifteen years (15) other than the EFCC. Last year alone, we secured two thousand, two hundred and twenty convictions (2,220) and this year, we have on record more than one thousand five hundred convictions thus far”, he said.

Earlier, Chiroma expressed appreciation to the EFCC for reposing confidence in the Law School in the area of documenting economic and financial crimes cases. He commended the EFCC for its record of convictions and sought more commitments to “training and retraining of staff”.

Meanwhile, A Non- Governmental Organisation : Productive Community For Sustainable Development Initiative” has called for greater synergy and collaboration with the Sokoto Command of the EFCC in order to combat the evils of economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.

The NGO made the call on Monday, June 6, 2022 while paying a Courtesy Call on the Acting Commander, Sokoto Zone, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE Aliyu Yunusa.

Describing the EFCC as the only government agency with high credibility, team lead of the group, Muhammad Abdullahi urged the Command to extend its public engagement and enlightenment activities to its members and other organisations in the Sokoto environment.

Responding, Yunusa assured the NGO that the EFCC will continue to partner with civil society across all strata of the society. He explained that the task before the EFCC is herculean and requires active participation of the entire citizens especially civil society. He further called on Nigerians to lend more support the Commission in the execution of its mandate.
