EFCC Arrests 31 in Jos, Including Four Chinese Nationals, for Illegal Mining

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 31 individuals, including four Chinese nationals, for their involvement in illegal mining activities in Jos, Plateau State.

The arrest took place on Saturday at Jiasheng Nigeria Limited’s premises, located in Dura Rayfield, Mangu Road, Jos, following credible intelligence that pointed to illegal mining operations in the area.

The suspects, 27 Nigerians and 4 Chinese nationals, are believed to be involved in illegal mining and the illegal trade of unprocessed solid minerals. Authorities recovered several pieces of evidence, including a truck loaded with eight bags of processed monazite weighing 1,000 kg. The value of the monazite is estimated at N4 million per bag.

The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once the investigation is complete.
