The Edo State Internal Revenue Service, EIRS, has extended the filing of annual Pay-As-You-Earn, PAYE, tax returns by two weeks.
Courage Eboigbe, Head of Corporate Communications, EIRS, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Benin City.
Eboigbe said January 31, 2026, was originally slated as a deadline for the statutory completion of the annual filing and submission.
He said the extension was to assist employers in navigating the complexities of recent tax reforms as well as to ensure that all organisations have sufficient time to align their filings with the new provisions of the Nigerian Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025.
He urged all employers to utilise the official digital portal to file returns on behalf of their employees.
Eboigbe said despite the window of extension, the revenue service’s law remains firm regarding non-compliance.
“The agency warned that sanctions will be strictly enforced against defaulting employers in line with Sections 127 and 101 of the NTAA.
“The EIRS encouraged employers to take advantage of the additional days to avoid these penalties.
“To be considered valid, all submissions must be duly signed and stamped by the employer or an accredited tax agent and be duly compliant with Section 33 of the NTAA 2025”, he said.
