Edo Election: 17 Political Parties Sign Peace Accord, as PDP Candidate Declines

The Chairman of the National Peace Committee General Abdulsalam Abubakar Rtd has called on political parties and their supporters to see peace as the antidote for development.

The former Nigerian head of state made this known at the Sir Victor Uwaifo creative center, during the signing of the peace accord by political parties ahead of the September 21st Governorship election in Edo State. According to the National Peace Committee Chairman, the essence of the signing is to abide by peaceful co-existence among the parties.

On their part, the INEC chairman and the inspector general of police spoke on the peace accord and the provision for a level playing ground for all the political parties. Seventeen political parties signed the peace accord, while the candidate of the peoples Democratic party Asue Ighodalo refused to sign the Accord, in what the party described as the unlawful arrest of its members across the state and alleged intimidation by the police.
