The Edo State Police Command has ordered an immediate and full-scale investigation into allegations of extortion involving officers attached to the Okpella Police Division.

The allegation followed a video circulating on social media in which some young men claimed that police officers arrested them, falsely accused them of cultism, and allegedly demanded and collected ₦1 million for their release.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, has directed that the allegation be thoroughly investigated and ordered the officers allegedly involved to report at the Command Headquarters. The officers have since been identified and summoned.
The Command, through the office of the Police Public Relations Officer, has also invited the alleged victims to appear before the investigating team and provide their accounts of the incident.
CP Daaor said allegations of police misconduct, extortion and abuse of power would be treated seriously, assuring that any officer found culpable after investigation would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law.
The Command further assured members of the public that genuine complaints against police personnel would not be swept under the carpet.
It urged citizens who experience unprofessional conduct, harassment, misconduct or extortion by police personnel to report such cases through the Complaint Response Unit for appropriate action.
