Residents of Nasarawa West Senatorial District have issued a stern warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, David Ombugadu, from exploiting the judiciary to contravene the popular mandate of the people in the recent governorship election. The district, encompassing Keffi, Karu, Kokona, Nasarawa, and Toto local governments, convened in Keffi to express their discontent with the governorship election petition tribunal’s recent ruling, which ousted Governor Abdullahi Sule from office.
In a show of solidarity for Governor Sule, residents took to the streets carrying placards conveying their surprise and dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s decision. Messages such as “We voted for Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule and no one else” and “nobody should ever think of using the judiciary to go against our will” were written on the placards.
The residents appealed to the Court of Appeal to rectify what they perceived as an unjust decision by the tribunal and reinstate the rightful mandate of the incumbent governor. Prince Attajiri, representing the governor, along with five executive local government chairmen, commissioners, heads of government agencies, political appointees, party leaders, interest groups, and stakeholders, urged supporters of Governor Sule to remain calm amid the developments.
