Democracy Day: Reps Commend President Tinubu

As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, the Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, has commended the harmonious relationship between the National Assembly and the executive, describing it as a product of shared democratic values and experience.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Agbese said the cordial working relationship between both arms of government was necessary for consolidating democracy and delivering good governance to Nigerians. He noted that many members of the executive, including President Bola Tinubu, are former lawmakers who understand the critical role of the legislature in national development.

Agbese emphasized that the business agenda of the 10th Assembly focuses on collaboration and partnership, aimed at building the Nigeria of their collective dream while attributing the current synergy between the executive and legislative arms to the emergence of parliamentary leadership through a transparent, inclusive, and democratic process. Agbese also addressed ongoing discussions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding automatic tickets for parliamentarians.

He clarified that while such matters rest with the party leadership, any considerations would factor in individual lawmakers’ performance and contributions to deepening democracy. Agbese reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to reducing rancor, promoting effective oversight, and ensuring that public funds work for the Nigerian people.
