Delta: Tribunal Sacks LP’s Ngozi Okolie, Returns PDP’s Ndudi Elumelu

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, located in Asaba, Delta State, has made a significant ruling, declaring the nullification of Mr. Ngozi Okolie’s election from the Labour Party as the representative for Aniocha/Oshimili Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The tribunal’s judgment, which was delivered on Monday, centered on the fact that Okolie lacked proper sponsorship by the Labour Party, as he was not a registered member of the party on May 28, 2022, the purported date of the primary election.

Consequently, the tribunal declared Ndudi Elumelu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who secured the second position in the National Assembly elections held on February 25, 2023, as the rightful winner of the constituency.

Ndudi Elumelu, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, had presented a petition before the tribunal, urging them to disqualify Mr. Ngozi Okolie, who had been previously declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
