Danladi Umar Testifies in Banex Plaza Assault Probe, LPDC Adjourns to Sept 15 for Final Arguments

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) adjourned the case of John Aikpokpo Martins Esq versus Danladi Umar Esq, former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, to September 15, 2025, for adoption of final written addresses.

The matter was heard at the LPDC office in the Body of Benchers Complex, Abuja, with both parties present and testifying. The case stems from a March 2021 incident at Banex Plaza, where Danladi Umar Esq was caught on video assaulting a security guard. John Aikpokpo-Martins subsequently filed a complaint with the LPDC, alleging misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a legal practitioner.

Clement Ugo Chukwuemeka (Democrat) Esq and Emmanuel Onuoha Esq represented the Applicant, while Blessing Anozodo Esq appeared for the Respondent. After adopting their statements of facts, the LPDC adjourned the case.

The LPDC’s decision will determine whether Danladi Umar Esq’s actions constitute conduct unbecoming of a legal practitioner and whether the Committee has jurisdiction over the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, with potential implications for his career.
