Customs Intercept Fake Drugs Worth N1.7b In Oyo/Osun

The Oyo /Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a breakthrough as it intercepted fake pharmaceutical drugs worth over N1.7 billion among other seizures.

The Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Command, Mr Ben Oramalugo, said the command intercepted fake pharmaceuticals comprising Augmentin tablets, Ampiclox, and Amoxycillin capsules concealed in 53 sacks with a Duty Paid Value of N1,739,000,000.00.

At the second press conference for 2024 at the operational headquarters of the area command in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Thursday, Mr Oramalugo noted that the feat was achievable through the vigilance and commitment of his men and the unwavering support of local communities.

The Oyo/Osun Customs Controller said that during the period covering February 1 through 27, 2024, the command collected about N5.6 billion (N5,664,295,751.15). Oramalugo said that when added to the sum of N6,824,954,338.96 already collected for January 2024, the cumulative sum of about N12.4 billion ( N12,489,250,090.11) had been collected so far for the 2024 fiscal year.

Other contraband seized so far in the year include 345 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 4 kilograms of Indian Hemp, 1,309 pieces of used tires, premium motor spirit, foreign vegetable oil, used items of clothing, and fake antibiotic drugs.
