Customs Intercept 2, 627 Bags of Rice, Hands over Ammunitions to Police in Ogun

The Ogun 1 Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Idiroko, has handed over five (5) units of Single Barrel dane guns, live ammunitions, as well as 18 carton of explosive materials intercepted by its anti-smuggling operatives to the State Command of the Nigeria Police. This is just as the Service also handed over 1, 037 parcels of Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) command in the state.

Speaking while handing over the prohibited items to the police and the NDLEA officials at the Idiroko Border, the command’s Area Controller (CAC), and Comptroller Godwin Otunla said the ammunitions, which consisted of dane guns, 1, 433 rounds of live cartridges and the explosives were intercepted in different locations within Ogun State.

The Controller explained that his command had intensified surveillance, deployed strategic intelligence and stretched collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders to enhance border operations. While expressing his appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his dynamic leadership, unflinching support and consistent encouragement, Otunla declared to sustain the heat on the smugglers and their collaborators.

He, however, attributed the increase to blockage of revenue leaks, compliance and fostering of legitimate trade across the borders. The CAC however, assured that his command will not relent, but sustain the momentum towards ensuring smugglers and other unscrupulous traders and their collaborators are chased out of the command’s catchment zone.
