A coalition of 259 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), under the umbrella of the Coalition for Transparency and Economic Reforms (COTER), has accused Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, of collaborating with disgruntled Nigerian politicians and foreign entities to destabilize Nigeria.
The CSOs have urged Nigerians to disregard the corruption allegations Gambaryan made against prominent Nigerian officials, including lawmakers, the National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The coalition claims these allegations are aimed at causing division, hatred, and ultimately undermining President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
COTER, in a statement signed by President Dr. Peter Chima Chukwu and General Secretary Mallam Auta Ibrahim Koko, accused Binance of plotting chaos in Nigeria with unfounded corruption claims. The group specifically targeted Gambaryan, who was detained in Nigeria for eight months over alleged corruption before being released. The CSOs also highlighted the lack of evidence supporting his claims and the swift denials from Nigerian officials.
The coalition further warned that Binance’s actions, in collaboration with unpatriotic Nigerian allies, were intended to sabotage the country’s stability. They called for a full investigation to identify Nigerian collaborators working with Binance and urged that those found guilty be prosecuted.
COTER condemned Gambaryan’s baseless accusations, including false claims about bribery involving NSA Ribadu and EFCC officers. They refuted these claims, providing evidence that the officers mentioned were professional in their investigation of Binance’s activities.
