Crimes: Police Arrests 4,383 Suspects Across Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 4,383 suspects across Nigeria between July 31 and September 23.

The arrests include 481 for armed robbery, 260 for kidnapping, 371 for murder and homicide, 161 for unlawful possession of firearms, 322 for rape, 375 cultists, and 2,413 others for various crimes.

The same period, police recovered 716 firearms, 21,238 rounds of ammunition, 212 vehicles, and rescued 1,138 kidnap victims.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, made the disclosure at a conference with senior officers in Abuja, where he said the results represent lives saved and communities restored to peace, but cautioned that some commands still fall short of expectations.

Egbetokun warned against misuse of police authority in civil disputes, especially land matters, stressing that the Force is not an enforcer for private interests.

He also ordered timely reporting of breakthroughs to boost public trust and confidence.
