Court Nullifies Impeachment Of Ex-plateau Speaker, Ayuba Abok

Nuhu Ayuba Abok defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last year, and his seat was subsequently declared vacant in March 2022.

A Plateau State high Court sitting in Jos on Monday nullified the impeachment of Ayuba Abok, orders his reinstatement as Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly With Immediate Effect.

In her Judgement, Justice Nafisa Musa upheld the submissions of the complainants that the impeachment was illegal and therefore null and void.

The Court further awarded the sum of N1.5million as cost of appearance and the sum of N138,000 as cost of filing the matter against the defenders.

The Court also ordered Yakubu Sanda to stop parading himself as the Speaker of the plateau state house of Assembly.

Recall, that Ayuba Abok Was impeached on Thursday 28 October 2021, by Eight (cool out of 24 Members of the State Assembly in what many described as a Political coup.

Angered by the development, Abok, dragged the new Speaker Yakubu Sanda and 16 Members of the House to Court, seeking the Plateau State High Court to declare that, his removal was a violation of Section 92(2)(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
