Court Issues Injunction, Halts Pro-Wike Rally in Bayelsa

The High Court of Bayelsa State, sitting in Yenagoa, issued an interim order on Thursday, preventing associates of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, from holding a large rally in the state. The event, which was scheduled for April 12, 2025, in Yenagoa, is temporarily blocked pending the hearing of a Motion on Notice.

Hon. Justice I.A. Uzakah granted the Motion Ex-Parte in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025, filed by Bayelsa’s Attorney General, Biriyai Dambo, SAN. The case lists Mr. George Turnah, lead convener of the NEW Associates, and Minister Wike as the first and second defendants, alongside the Nigeria Police Force and the police leadership in Bayelsa.

The court’s order restricts the defendants and their associates from organizing or participating in any political rallies or gatherings in Bayelsa for the purpose of supporting or celebrating Wike, pending further legal proceedings. The case is adjourned for hearing on April 11, 2025.
