Court Cancels Osun Council Elections

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission’s most recent local government elections from October 15 were declared invalid on Friday by a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel ruled that the election had been held illegally, in violation of Sections 29 and 32 of the Electoral Act of 2022.

The Osun State Electoral Commission had been ordered by the Peoples Democratic Party not to conduct the planned elections.

Other respondents in the matter include INEC, the All Progressives Cngress and its then chairman, Adeboyega Famoodun.
