Council Polls: Police Restricts Movement In FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command, on Friday, announced a restriction of movement in the Federal Capital Territory, towards the Area Council Elections holding on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Josephine Adeh, explained that the restriction will be enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day to ensure the safety of voters and the credibility of the electoral process.

According to the PPRO, the order applies to all residents of the territory, with exemptions granted to essential service providers and duly accredited election officials to allow for the smooth conduct of the polls.

The Command urged residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and cooperate with security agencies throughout the exercise. The Police assured that adequate security arrangements have been put in place across the six Area Councils.

The police warned that anyone who violates the restriction or engages in acts capable of disrupting the elections will face the full weight of the law.
