Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called for U.S. partnership to support Nigeria’s constitution review, with focus on electoral reforms and women representation.
Speaking during a meeting with U.S. Embassy officials at the National Assembly, Kalu proposed collaboration in technical expertise, advocacy, and capacity building, including a leadership programme for future female lawmakers.
He highlighted the introduction of a Special Seats Bill to reserve 182 additional legislative seats for women, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy is incomplete without full gender inclusion.
The U.S. delegation pledged continued support for governance reforms in Nigeria.
